Everybody Rise: Coaching Women & Diverse Clients to Step Up and Lead
Saundra King-Lee
A lively, interactive conversation about the rise of a new leadership paradigm in the wake of crisis. Best-selling author (with Marshall Goldsmith) of How Women Rise, Sally Helgesen and the IOC Director of Education and author of Flex: The Art and Science of Leadership in a Changing World, Jeffrey Hull discuss the emergence of a new paradigm for effective leadership—and the crucial role coaches can play to accelerate the shift.
The pandemic crisis has disrupted us all – prompting new ways of working, connecting and leading. It has surely been tragic for those impacted by the virus directly and particularly difficult for front line health care workers who have had to go above and beyond to serve at this difficult time. Yet, there have been a few “silver linings”—one of which is that leaders have been stepping up in new ways, re-thinking how they show up, communicate and motivate teams under stress conditions.
More women, people of color, people of multicultural/multi-racial backgrounds, non-binary gender affiliations – as well as introverts—are showing up as role models, as a more inclusive, collaborative, compassionate and community-oriented approach to leadership becomes key to organizational (and we might add, planetary) success.
In this talk, we discuss how the definition of traditional leadership – decisive, authoritative, rational – has evolved in the wake of crisis, and how the soft skills that coaches often work to cultivate in leaders have, with evidence-based underpinnings, become crucial for today’s resilient, high-performing and engaged teams.
Our discussion focused on:
- How can we as coaches capitalize on this paradigm shift?
- What is our role in forwarding a “new agenda” in the C-suite and beyond?
- How can coaching be integral to a bringing a broader systemic approach to designing & leading organizations today…and in the future?
